Australia Day

January 26 is Australia Day, the country's biggest celebration. This day, the country gets together to celebrate "everything great about being an Australian". So it's not actually a memorial day in that nothing ever happenend on January 26, except other Australia Days.

Being that we have several Australian friends, this was a celebration that we would join in ths year. We ordered ten meat pies from the New Zealand shop nearby, and brought a case of Brand beer. The festivities were held at Jason and Jane's house, the same who hosted Christmas. This time there were a lot more people, and a bathtub filled with booze.

We arrived around 3pm and were promptly handed cans of Fosters. A few hours later, we warmed up some meat pies (Ross had also brought 20 of them) and started up the barbie for a meat eating bonanza. After we ate, the boys headed out to the park next door to play footie, or Australian rules football. I give them all a lot of credit since it was freezing out. That really quieted down the place, and left the girls to manage the barbecueing. I think we did an ok job, but definetely made way too much meat.

As the night progressed, it was decided we would go out to Cocos, the Aussie bar in town where Matt and I caught the fabulous Cowboys defeat to big blue. When we arrived, the bouncer wasn't letting anyone in. He let 3 girls go inside, myself included since all the boys in our group pushed us all in. Once inside, we learned that they weren't letting anyone else in because the place was absolutely packed and someone had just thrown a beer bottle and just missed a bartender. So I decided to ditch, since I didn't know when Matt would be let in and he wasn't feeling well. So we made the wise decision of walking home. Wise because we'd find out later that it turned out to be an all-nighter. At Cocos?? No thanks. All in all, some good Aussie fun though, and those meat pies - mmm....
